ABOUT THE APPLICATION
Hands down T-Sheets is the best application I could recommend would be T-Sheets. 
While, I am a fan of their application, my recommendation is due to their unparalleled customer service…. SERIOUSLY it is that good!
T-Sheets has created a pretty amazing application which offers EVERYONE a method to clock in and out for their shifts no matter where they are. In most scenarios, employees can use their own smart phones to clock in/out and if designated to do so, each action will store their GPS location as well as the device that was used.
In service-based industries, the GPS marker helps business owners reduce potential time theft from employees punching the clock from somewhere other than on the job.
Offices, retail stores, and restaurants will all appreciate the new kiosk mode which allows a company to establish a single tablet (iPad or android device) for employees to punch in and out. Each employee has a unique pin number to reduce the opportunity for coworkers clocking each other in.
If you have an employee that has a phone with less than average intelligence, that is ok too! Just setup a dedicated phone number and your employee can text to punch the clock or even call the automated service and type in the code directly.
Or if your business is full of millennials, you might even convince them to clock in using the tweet the clock function.
Most importantly, for the accounting and office staff that must calculate all the payroll details, they are going to LOVE YOU for setting up T-Sheet with QuickBooks Online. As an accountant who handles the payroll for multiple companies, I have found it has helped to reduce the amount of time I spend collecting and calculating time.
Besides making clocking in and out simple for employees, they also offer some very impressive user permissions and company settings that help keep things on track. Within the company settings you have options to:
Create Groups of employees: for department-based reporting as well as manager approval workflows.
Clock in and Out Reminders: emails and text messages can be sent to employees prior to a scheduled shift and remind them to clock out at the end of the day.
Overtime Rules: Managers can setup automated notification if an employee goes into overtime either at the daily or weekly level. This can really help a company control their cost of labor.
Employee Breaks: If selected, T-Sheets can automatically enter the legally required break periods and will even reduce the total hours worked by the scheduled lunch break. While this seems like a great feature, I recommend you consult an HR professional in your area to ensure you would not be breaking any local labor laws.
Wow… the list of features continues to go on and on from there but in all fairness, here are a couple of my personal pet peeves:
After the fact Billable Breakout:
For companies tracking billable hours, it can be difficult to clock in at the beginning of the day, clock out at the end of the day and then try to go back and break out the time per activity later. TSheets does have a very valid workflow on how to accomplish this task, but it requires the user to click a “switch task” button to go between different tasks. It’s easy to do but hard to get your employees to do it.
Mileage or Expense Tracking:
It is possible to add custom fields to allow employees to manually enter their mileage for reimbursement, unfortunately this number does not pull into the approval window within QuickBooks Online. To resolve this, TSheets generated a custom report for me that allowed me to quickly pull the reported mileage per person based on the values that had been entered in.
80/20 Rule:
In general, if you get 80% of what you want out of an application, that is pretty good, any more than 80% and you probably built it yourself.
From my experience, there are a couple things that make a app company successful:
1: Do they ask their users for feedback, and do they listen to it?
2: Does the app companies first line of defense sound like they enjoy working there
3: Does the company have an accessible product roadmap that demonstrates a tendency for improvement,
BUT to bring this full circle… YOU will appreciate how easy it is for any employee to ask T-Sheets for assistance, so you do not have to be bothered every time someone forgets their password!
